Oil Palm TreeNeed something different, try indoor palm trees

The Oil palm is a graceful palm that grows up to a mature height of 50-60 feet with a spread of 15-25 feet in width. The Elaeis guineensis has an erect, stout, ringed trunk that is rough above (covered with persistant leaf bases) and smooth below. The Oil palm doesn’t have a crownshaft, but has 40-50 leaves. They are pinnate, 12-16 feet long, heavily armed at their bases with irregularly spaced 250-300 leaflets.

The inflorescences are produced in dense clusters  that come from among the leaves. The flowers are unisexual with male and female flowers in separate bunches. The flowers and creamy white in color. Each flower has three sepals and three petals.

Oil Palm TreeThe Oil palm bears large (up to 40-150 lb), crowded bunches of thousands of fruits. The Elaeis guineensis starts to produce fruits 4-5 years afer planting. The fruit is 2 inch in diameter, elongated, nutlike, glossy bright red to black when ripe. It takes about 6 months for fruits to ripen.
